Matt Peplow

Legal Partner

Matt advises on investments and general corporate matters, supporting our portfolio companies across their financing and legal activities.

An experienced corporate lawyer at several global law firms, Matt has advised founders and entrepreneurs and leading venture funds, financial institutions and private equity houses on investment rounds, fundraising, public and private M&A, restructurings, joint ventures, takeovers and IPOs.

I was drawn to Phoenix Court by the unique opportunity to work closely with the investment team and wider portfolio. Unlike a typical back-office role, the legal function here is fully integrated across the entire business, requiring a deep understanding of our portfolio companies and the sectors they work in. This perspective enables me to anticipate legal risks and provide pragmatic advice.

Matt’s career began as an Associate at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner in London and Singapore, where he worked across public and private M&A, restructurings, joint ventures, takeovers and IPOs. Upon joining Latham & Watkins, his focus shifted to private equity, high-value later-stage transactions and large institutional clients.

Inspired by his experience of working on a venture capital deal, he went on to join Withers Tech as a Senior Associate managing venture investments and exits, advising investors, tech companies and entrepreneurs.

Matt graduated with a First Class Honours Bachelor of Laws degree, with American Law, from the University of Nottingham, where his course included a year’s exchange at the University of Texas at Austin. At Austin, a notable tech hub, he was immersed in the world of startups and venture capital, which first sparked his interest in the sector. While in the US, he also saw a very different side of the legal ecosystem, working as an assistant pro-bono attorney to Texas Death Row inmates.

Away from work, Matt’s passion is extreme sports, including mountaineering, kitesurfing, and snowboarding.
