Rhian oversees the group’s legal activities, including investments, general corporate matters and strategy.
With a broad corporate law background including venture capital, private equity and public markets, Rhian has advised technology companies, founders, PE firms and investors across company life cycles from pre-seed to exit and further still. She has worked with category-defining companies such as Farfetch, Graphcore and Wise.
I try to help founders by demystifying legal jargon, contextualising investor asks with real world examples and proactively alerting teams where there may be legal risks or considerations to work through. In doing so, I hope to instil confidence that we view our investor role holistically, as a partnership first and foremost.
Rhian also advises on the group’s fundraising and fund structuring, where she focuses on building key relationships with investors, funds counsel and advisers.
Previously, Rhian was a Corporate Associate at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP where her practice focused on high growth technology companies and private equity transactions, before she moved to in-house roles. She was legal counsel for the listed IP Group plc, with a focus on IP-rich university spin outs and at Anthemis, a fintech-focused fund.
She graduated with a First Class Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Glasgow.
My best tip for founders looking to raise from VC funds is to hire lawyers who are well versed in assisting startups, who fully understand the market, capital cycles and the company’s stakeholders. Having strong legal advisors on board early creates efficiencies in the long-run and will equip companies with strong governing documents as a foundation that can be built on at each subsequent financing.
